cater for a whole range of tastes and budgets.Eating in
or out make the most of fresh local produce including
fish and seafood, anchovies, olives and olive oil, salads
and other vegetables, cheese and fruits according to the
season. Drinks such as wine and vin doux (Banyuls and

Discover Catalan
culture and history at one of the many museums in the
area together with a wealth of art galleries. Visit some
of the many religious buildings built over the centuries
such as the cathedral in Perpignan, village churches or
once important priories. Many forts and chateaux are open
to the public and are often the venue for antiques fairs
or art exhibitions.

Hunt for treasure
at a vide grenier (a little like a car boot or jumble
sale but with French junk!) or rummage for broccante for
a different sort of souvenir. Local arts and crafts including
traditional textiles, majollica pottery from Collioure
and artisan made foods such as chocolates, biscuits and
drinks. In Perpignan look out for licensed products in
respect
of the two rugby teams associated with the area (USAP
and Catalan Dragons) or goods bearing '66' or 'soixante-six'
the number of the Departément. It is possible to
visit a market every day of the week all year around throughout
the region. Ceret on Saturday and Collioure on Sunday
are two of the best around. Arrive early to find a parking
space! Most markets in
France finish at lunchtime and many shops close for between
12.00h and 14.00 for lunch.

and leisure
Whatever your
age there is an abundance of activities to keep everyone
amused and entertained. There is something happening almost
every moment of the day in July and early August but it
becomes much quieter in the winter. The region offers
excellent walking, cycling, horse riding, golf .......
the list is endless. For the less sporty there are lots
of fun activities for all the family, karting, crazy golf,
bowling, visiting animal parks etc. See USAP and the Catalan
Dragons play at home and experience the passion the southern
French have for the game of rugby.
